Thirty donors to the Carpinteria Children’s Project (CCP) have raised over $100,000 for the school’s 2026 education scholarship fund, following the Sunset Sips for Scholarships event CCP held on Sept. 7 at Ocean View Farms.
The Sept. 7 event also marked the launch of CCP’s dedicated scholarship fund, “ intended to make scholarship availability more predictable and consistent for families,” per a press release sent out last week. Each year, the CCP provides scholarships to an average of 27 families; scholarships range from 50% to 100% of coverage.
“Our Sips event ended up providing much more than a sip and highlighted how supportive this community is of our work to make sure every family in Carpinteria has the opportunity to achieve kindergarten readiness in a caring environment,” said CCP Executive Director Teresa Alvarez. “Scholarships mean access to early education, childcare and resources for every family. We see it as lifting up the whole community one family at a time.”
At the Sept. 7 event, CCP supporter Richard Finkley announced a $50,000 matching challenge. Over 30 donors responded by raising over $60,000, bringing the event total to $111,362 for the CCP scholarship fund.
“They say it takes a village to raise a child, and our little community continues to step up and show itself as an extremely supportive village,” said CCP Director of Development Ari Rodriguez. “Our new scholarship fund will provide consistent financial assistance to families — year after year — without relying on emergency fundraising or unpredictable outside support.”
The CCP’s early education program supports students 18 months old to pre-kindergarten age in a dual English and Spanish curriculum. CCP is still accepting donations; learn more by contacting Rodriguez at arodriguez@carpchildren.org or at (805) 566-1621.
