“This is why I believe God’s timing is perfect. A day before I was going to commit to another school, I received the notification that I had been selected for a scholarship. My parents have always told me to work hard for what I want and to not lose hope, and in that moment, I saw those values come full circle.”

“I have had experiences I could never have imagined — from research in the lab to time in the classroom to rediscovering an old hobby. None of this would have been possible without the generosity of donors like you. Because of you, I am standing here today, ready to take the next step on my journey.”
McMahon highlighted the history of scholarship at Marquette and the university’s philanthropic momentum around scholarship funds.
“We are a part of a close-knit community that has supported students through scholarship for nearly 150 years,” McMahon said. He then shared that University Archives recently uncovered one of the first-ever scholarship agreements, completed in 1901.
“Together, our momentum has continued as we have raised $58 million in support of scholarship in just the past nine months,” McMahon said.
The event also highlighted aspects of the overall student experience, including interactive showcases featuring the Wellness + Helfaer Recreation facility, the College of Nursing, immersive research and Marquette’s Backpack program. President Ah Yun and McMahon thanked donors for honoring the university’s mission by keeping the doors open to this distinctive Marquette experience.
“The future is made possible because of your generosity,” President Ah Yun said. “I’m so grateful to each and every one of you. These are the scholarships that allow us to be successful.”
After their featured remarks, Father Duns and Reardon treated guests to a special tin whistle performance. Reardon is a student in Father Duns’ tin-whistle class, where he picked up an old hobby and learned advanced tin whistle techniques. He is preparing to compete at an international level.
