Central Texas College Foundation event raises $60,000 for student scholarships – The Killeen Daily Herald

The Central Texas College Foundation’s 3rd Annual Designer Bag Bingo proved to be another resounding success, raising more than $60,000 recently to fund student scholarships and college programs. The sold-out event combined community fun with a strong commitment to education, as participants played bingo for the chance to win purses from top designers.
Attendees vied for handbags by Coach, Michael Kors, Tory Burch, Kate Spade, Betsey Johnson, Karl Lagerfeld and more. Special big-game rounds gave lucky winners the chance to take home exclusive Louis Vuitton and Gucci prizes. Guests also enjoyed raffle drawings and other activities that kept the energy high throughout the day.
This year’s event held special meaning for committee member D’Ann Beck, who helped organize the fundraiser in honor of her late aunt, Sis Beck.
“I chose this foundation because my aunt, Sis Beck, and her husband, Bernice, were instigators in bringing the colleges to Killeen years ago, and she was a big supporter of scholarships at CTC,” Beck said. “This year’s event is dedicated to Sis Beck, whom we lost in June. It really means a lot to me to carry on that name and the many good deeds they have done throughout the years.”
Attendee Kristina Myers-Williams said she returned for her second year at Designer Bag Bingo because she believes strongly in the cause.
“I am really fond of the idea of helping people with scholarships,” Myers-Williams said. “My oldest daughter went through college mostly on scholarships, and I can’t think of anything better than to help others achieve their goals through education. Because we are a military area, there are so many students who aren’t financially able to go to college. These scholarships help all students across the board, not just athletes or those with the highest grades, but every student who dreams of earning a degree.”
Valerie Payson, Executive Director of the CTC Foundation, said the outpouring of support has been inspiring.
“We could not be more grateful for the community support of this event, which has doubled in growth year over year,” Payson said. “The generosity of our donors and ticket holders makes it possible to turn dreams into reality for our students every day at Central Texas College.”
For the second consecutive year, tickets sold out months in advance, highlighting the event’s growing popularity. Foundation leaders have already begun preparing for next year’s Designer Bag Bingo, scheduled for Sept. 19, 2026. For reservations or more information, contact the CTC Foundation at 254-526-1472.
