JACKSON — Earlier in September, the Jackson High School Roaming Red Devils Club announced that senior Jesse Chaffin has been awarded a full travel scholarship for the club’s upcoming international trip to London, Paris and Barcelona in February 2026.
Chaffin will join more than 35 of his classmates for this once-in-a-lifetime educational experience abroad.
The Roaming Red Devils Club, which organizes international travel opportunities for Jackson High School students, created this scholarship to make global learning accessible to students who might not otherwise have the opportunity to travel internationally.
In his application, Jesse shared: “I have never been outside the US before, so I hope to learn what life is really like across the sea in Europe. I know this trip will be a great time learning all about new countries and environments with my peers.”
Club co-sponsor Meghan Walker said Chaffin’s application showed courage, growth and genuine curiosity about the world.
“We’re thrilled to support him as he represents Jackson High School abroad, and we know this trip will have a lasting impact on him as both a student and a global citizen,” she said.
The mission of the Roaming Red Devils Club is to help students broaden their horizons, build confidence and connect their classroom learning to the wider world. Through international travel, students gain cultural awareness, language practice and leadership skills that prepare them to thrive in an interconnected world.
“As a club and as a school, we want to be sure to provide opportunities that open the world to our kids,” Club co-sponsor Shannon Borum said. “When students step beyond their own community and experience life in other places, they gain perspectives that will stay with them for a lifetime. We are so excited that Jesse is the first of what we hope to be many scholarship recipients.”
The Roaming Red Devils’ 2026 journey will provide students with opportunities to explore cultural landmarks, practice language skills and develop a deeper understanding of global perspectives.
“The club is also grateful to the Butts County Chamber of Commerce for its generous support,” a press release read. “The Chamber’s scholarship selection committee carefully evaluated student applications, and their thoughtful consideration made this award possible.”
The Chamber has also sponsored a set of power converters for all student travelers, eliminating one more concern for students and families as they prepare for their international adventure.
“Looking ahead, the Roaming Red Devils Club is committed to giving more students life-changing opportunities like this one,” the press release read. “The club welcomes the support of the Jackson community — whether through donations or by getting involved directly with the program — to help ensure that even more students can experience the world beyond their own backyard.”
