OWEGO (WBNG) — The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation along with an Owego man are helping to raise funds to provide scholarships to graduating seniors.
Tom McEnteer is a retired teacher and toy collector who has been collecting toys since he was child.
McEnteer has over 100,000 toys in his collection which range from the Civil War era to the present day.
The entry fee for the “Journey through Tom’s Toy World” event was $10 for adults 12 and up and $25 for families.
The money raised will go towards scholarships for high school students in Broome, Tioga, and Otsego Counties.
This is the second year the Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation has hosted this event.
“A lot of people that came through last year have grabbed their friends and said, ‘You’ve got to see this, you’re not gonna believe it, you’ve got to see it,’” said McEnteer.
The Charles H. Bassett Youth Foundation provided 35 students with $500 scholarships each.
“Every little bit helps in today’s world and this effort is a wonderful joyful philanthropic endeavor,” said scholarship coordinator & Vice President Robert Bassett.
