The Chattanooga Music Club will present a recital featuring the recipients of the 2025 Scholarship Competition. It will be followed by a tea on Sunday, April 6, at 3 p.m. at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church, 1505 N. Moore Road. This event is free and open to the public.
The Chattanooga Music Club held its annual Scholarship Competition on March 9 at First Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The competition is held every spring and is open to area high school seniors planning to major in the study of Classical music in college or to major in another subject but continue Classical music study for two years at a nationally accredited school of music. Judging the competition this year were Charlynne Fry, Dr. Kimberly Keck and Sandy Morris.
Sharing the Chattanooga Music Club Scholarship this year are two outstanding musicians: Evangeline Manalo, viola (Collegiate) – $3,000 and Sarah Yang, violin (CCA) – $2,000.
Three recipients were awarded the Opal Rhea Swaity Scholarship for Voice: Carter Greeson (SE Whitfield) – $1,500, Jake Studley (McCallie) – $1,000, and Julian Arellano (Baylor) – $500. The Rear Admiral Vance & Mrs. Charlynne Fry Scholarship, in memory of their son, Vance Hewitt Fry, Jr., was awarded to Miles Gilbert, piano (Notre Dame) – $1,000. Clara Beth Elsenrath, bassoon (Heritage) – $1,000 received the Dr. Glen Draper Memorial Scholarship. The Dorothy Price Martin Cobb Scholarship went to Praise Meehan, piano (Homeschool) – $1,500.
