The Chicago Bears announced Wednesday that applications are now open for the 2026 Collin Wehr Scholarship, a $20,000 grant established in memory of Collin Wehr, a young lifelong Chicago Bears fan who bravely battled pediatric cancer until his passing in 2013. The scholarship provides financial support to pediatric cancer survivors or siblings of children who have lost their fight with the disease, helping them pursue higher education.
The one-time, non-renewable award may be used toward tuition, books or room and board at an accredited university, college, community college or vocational school. Pediatric cancer survivors and siblings of children who passed away from cancer who are pursuing higher education are encouraged to apply.
How to Apply:
The Collin Wehr Scholarship honors Collin’s courage and his special bond with the Chicago Bears, first formed during a 2011 visit to Halas Hall, where he reported live from NFL Network alongside former Chicago Bears wide receiver Tom Waddle. Today, the Wehr family remains closely involved in the program, working alongside the team to encourage and support young survivors and their families.
Since its launch in 2014, the Collin Wehr Scholarship program has awarded more than $220,000 to 11 students, providing hope and the opportunity for young people impacted by pediatric cancer to continue their studies.
Last year’s recipient, Allison K. Brown, a student at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., was awarded the $20,000 scholarship to support her studies in Public Health. Allison, who has battled cancer herself and lost her brother Joshua to brain cancer, has dedicated her life to service through her family’s nonprofit, Joshua’s Great Things, which has raised nearly $500,000 for pediatric brain cancer research and family support. She continues to inspire through her resilience, academic dedication and commitment to helping others.
