SAN ANTONIO — The 100 Club of San Antonio is hosting its annual luncheon to honor first responders who have made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting the community. This gathering brings together law enforcement, fire personnel, and community leaders to remember those who lost their lives in the line of duty and to support the families they left behind.
Since its inception in 1973, the 100 Club has provided support to first responders in San Antonio seriously injured in the line of duty and to the families of those who have fallen. Harry Brackman was among the first recipients of the trust fund after losing his father in 1974. The support allowed him and his sister to pursue higher education.
"Knowing that the 100 Club is like a guardian angel over all the families that have endured a loss with the first responders," said Brackman. "The last few years have really ramped up the mental health awareness for all officers and anybody going through some tough times."
As part of the day's event, the 100 Club will issue scholarships to the children of fallen first responders. This year, four children from three fallen San Antonio Police Department officers will receive scholarships to use for their college education.
Bart Vasquez, the 100 Club's executive director, emphasized the importance of this support. "Every parent, what they want is for their kids to do better than they did and have a better life than we did," said Vasquez. "We're here at the 100 Club to at least provide that financial support to these fallen first responders' kids, to give them that opportunity to do that."
Through these scholarships, the 100 Club honors those who have fallen while offering their families a chance at a brighter future.
There are several events the 100 Club is hosting to help raise funds, including a golf tournament next week. If you would like to make a donation, you can find the information here.
