At a meeting between Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Kim Son and his Chinese counterpart Huai Jinpeng this week, the two agreed to boost education cooperation, with China training teachers of the Chinese language, experts and engineers for Vietnam.
China would also expand the fields and training facilities to receive Vietnamese students, as well as increasing the amount of university scholarships, especially in science and technology fields, and training experts at top schools.
Additionally, China also guarantees to provide help in fields like high-speed railways, urban railways, education development, digital transformation and artificial intelligence.
The Chinese government is providing 150 full scholarship slots for Vietnamese students each year, in addition to other scholarship programs at different localities, universities and research institutions in China.
China currently has over 3,000 colleges and universities. The government has invested tens of billions of Chinese yuan into universities for their infrastructures and equipment.
25 Chinese schools have made it into the top 200 universities globally, according to university rankings Quacquarelli Symonds and Times Higher Education.
In the 2023-2024 school year, around 23,000 Vietnamese students studied in China. This year, 10 Vietnamese students secured governmental scholarships to enter two top Chinese schools: Peking University and Tsinghua University, the highest number seen within the last five years.
