Cody High School graduate Isabelle Radakovich has been named a finalist for the Truman Fellowship Scholarship.
The TFS is a national-level scholarship that awards up to $30,000 for graduate school to juniors in college who plan to work in public service. Radakovich was nominated for the award by faculty at the James Madison College at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
James Madison is a residential college offering undergraduate education in public affairs and international relations.
Approximately 750 students are nominated for the scholarship nationwide and about 200 are selected as finalists, Radakovich said.  She will have an interview with a panel of representatives from the TFS Foundation before award-winners are announced later in the spring.
“I started working on the application in November before having an internal interview with the university and I was fortunate enough to be nominated by Michigan State. I reviewed my application quite a bit after that first interview and I heard (in early February) that I was a national finalist,” she said.
Radakovich graduated from CHS in 2022.  While in high school, she was an All-State basketball player and was one of just two students in the state named a Presidential Scholar during her senior year.
“I am incredibly grateful for the education I received in Cody. I truly believe that the foundation I built there directly contributed to my success at MSU and ultimately to this opportunity,” she said.
Radkovich is a triple-major at MSU, in International Relations, Political Theory and Constitutional Democracy, and French.  After graduating, she plans to get a masters degree in international law, before ultimately pursuing a law degree that she hopes will help her land a job with an international organization like the United Nations or the International Criminal Court.
“I never wanted to go to law school right away, because I really want to know my issues back-and-forth first.  I want to use law school as a tool rather than a starting point,” Radakovich said.
