LEWISBURG — The Standard Journal is reporting… A Rhode Island-based group has filed a civil rights complaint against Bucknell University. They are alleging that some scholarships and programs discriminate based on race, national origin, or sex.
The Equal Protection Project says it sent a letter dated Aug. 12 to the US Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights, claiming 10 scholarships violate Title VI and 18 violate Title IX. The group is calling for a federal investigation and policy changes but says it is not seeking to eliminate the scholarships.
Bucknell told the Standard Journal Tuesday, they are in compliance with federal law and continue to review its operations. The Equal Protection Project has filed similar challenges against more than 100 other colleges and universities nationwide.
