The Central Lakes College Foundation has announced the creation of the Anne Hasskamp Sambar Memorial Nursing Scholarship, a new annual award that celebrates the enduring legacy of Anne Hasskamp Sambar—a graduate of Central Lakes College’s Licensed Practical Nursing program, Crosby-Ironton High School alumna and lifelong advocate for compassionate care.
Sambar died in 2022 at the age of 73 after a brief battle with cancer. Born in Brainerd and raised in Crosby, she graduated from Crosby-Ironton High School in 1967 and began her career in health care as a nurses’ aide at Cuyuna Regional Medical Center. This led her to the licensed practical nursing program at what is now Central Lakes College.
To honor Sambar’s memory and her commitment to caregiving, the Anne Hasskamp Sambar Memorial Nursing Scholarship will award two $1,000 scholarships each spring to nursing students at Central Lakes College who are graduate of Crosby-Ironton High School. Recipients will be selected based on faculty recommendations for demonstrating integrity, responsibility and a genuine aptitude for patient care. In the absence of eligible candidates from Crosby-Ironton, students from Crow Wing and Aitkin vounties will be considered.
“Anne lived a life full of joy, generosity and compassion,” said her sister, former State Representative Kris Hasskamp, a CLC graduate (1971) and former college center and social activities director (1975-1979). “All of us four sisters graduated from this enduring, student-centered and academically superior institution with fondest memories and pride. This scholarship is a way to carry forward her spirit by supporting students who share her passion for caring for others.”
