Three area high school seniors recently received college scholarships courtesy of Cockerham Energy and BP/Amoco.
Recipients were Emma Kylee Helton, a graduate of Galax High School; Ethan Carter Edwards, a graduate of Carroll County High School; and Sarah Frances Hale, a graduate of Grayson County High School.
Helton plans to attend Radford University in the fall and is planning on majoring in interior design. She is the daughter of Jason Helton and Paige Foutch, both of Galax.
Edwards plans to attend Harvard University. He is the son of Jamie and Sharon Edwards of Hillsville.
Hale, the daughter of Randy and Angela Hale of Elk Creek, plans to attend King University. She will be majoring in social work.
“Cockerham Energy is proud to provide financial support that will aid these students to continue their education,” the company said in a news release.
Cockerham Energy, a local family-owned business for over 75 years, distributes gasoline, diesel, heating oil and propane throughout the Galax-Carroll-Grayson area.
