A local high school is holding its first-ever collectibles show this weekend, with proceeds going toward scholarships and athletics programs for students.
About 20 tables full of collectibles will be set up in the forum at Superior Heights Collegiate & Vocational School for the Steelhawks Sports Card and Memorabilia Show from noon to 4 p.m. on Saturday.
Vince Palumbo, a vice-principal at the school, said there will be a little bit of everything at Saturday's show, including sports cards, Pokemon and Magic the Gathering cards, comic books, toys and other collectibles — and admission is free.
"We have the perfect venue for it, we have some kids in the school that are interested and we have some staff that are interested," Palumbo said.
He added: "We actually have five people on staff that are into it and it's a mix of comic collectors and sports card collectors and everything else. It's kind of neat to bring the crew together that way."
Although there will be fewer tables, Palumbo said some of the vendors at Saturday's event will be familiar to people who attend similar local collectible shows like NerdCon and CollectorCon.
"I think bringing it into the school environment makes it a little bit more accessible to students and we're excited to have it here," he said.
"We'll put the money that we raised from the table registrations towards our scholarship fund, which is giving directly back to the students in the building," he added.
A few vendor tables are still available as of press time. Interested vendors can email [email protected] for more details.
