Altrusa of Roseburg awarded five $1,500 colleg scholarships to three Roseburg High School and two Sutherlin High School students in April.
Owen Miller and Nilisha Patel, both of Roseburg High School, received a $1,000 scholarship from Altrusa and a $500 ASTRA scholarship. Miller plans to attend Brigham Young University to major in biology with the long-range goal of becoming a children’s orthodontist. Patel will attend either the University of Oregon or Oregon State University to pursue her undergraduate degree in biology. Her long-term goal is to become a pediatric health care provider.
Sylvia Eckman, also of Roseburg High School, received a $1,500 Altrusa scholarship. She plans to attend Harvard University to pursue a masters degree in government and diplomacy. Her goal is to work for the US State Department or an international organization such as NATO.
Ashley Palm and Brooklyn Bartram, both of Sutherlin High School, received $1,500 scholarships. Palm plans to attend the University of Oregon to major in business administration and marketing. Her long-term goal is to become a product marketing manager. Bartram plans to attend Oregon Institute of Technology to enroll in their pre-med program. Her goal is to become involved in the cadaver program to learn as much as possible about the human body and eventually open her own business.
