The College Place High School Scholarship Fund has been launched, said CPHSSF Steering Committee chair Gayle See, who serves on the committee with Cory Davis, Jason Grove and Matthew See.
Community volunteers, in partnership with College Place School District teachers and staff, have opened a scholarship fund at Blue Mountain Community Foundation to provide financial support to graduating seniors as they continue their education at colleges, universities and vocational schools, Gayle See said.
CPHS’s first graduating class was in 2018.
“As a community that values education and growth, creating a scholarship fund to support graduates seemed like a logical next step to supporters,” she said in a release.
“We believe in the power of education to change lives, and this fund is designed to provide the support that these students need to take the next step toward achieving their academic and career goals,” she said.
The fund currently stands at $3,100.
“It will take time for the scholarship fund to grow, but we know it will.”
Among the committee’s goals to build the fund are city partnerships, school announcements, parent/community visibility, digital presence including the CP School District website and newsletters and business and corporate outreach to area businesses.
She said marketing materials are being developed along with banners and signs and a thermometer showing progress.
They also expect to have a presence at volleyball, football and basketball games and to give a presentation to College Place City Council.
Scholarships will be awarded annually based on criteria still being developed.
“We are excited to see how the College Place High School Scholarship Fund will empower the next generation of leaders, thinkers, and innovators. Together, we are helping to build a brighter future for our community, one scholarship at a time,” Gayle See said.
