Fully-Funded Master’s Scholarship Opportunity: Commonwealth Masters Scholarships (UK)
The Commonwealth Scholarship Commission (CSC) in the United Kingdom invites applications for its prestigious Commonwealth Master’s Scholarships — a fully-funded award designed to support outstanding candidates from eligible low- and middle-income Commonwealth countries who could not otherwise afford to pursue a master’s degree in the UK.
What the Scholarship Covers
Selected scholars will receive:
- Tuition and examination fees at a UK university.
- Approved airfare from their home country to the UK (and return) at the end of the award.
- A living allowance (“stipend”) to cover personal and essential costs while studying in the UK.
- Additional benefits may include warm-clothing allowance, study travel grant and (in some cases) child allowance if eligible.
Who Should Apply?
You are eligible to apply if you meet all of the following criteria:
- Citizen of, or granted refugee status by, an eligible Commonwealth country (or a British Protected Person).
- Permanently resident in an eligible Commonwealth country.
- By the start of the UK academic year (typically September) hold a first degree of at least upper second-class honours (2:1), or a lower second class degree (2:2) plus a relevant postgraduate qualification.
- Unable to afford to study in the UK without this scholarship.
- Available to begin full-time taught master’s study in a UK university in the relevant academic year
Please note: If you already hold a master’s degree (especially a UK master’s) or have studied in a high-income country for an extended period, you may be ineligible or required to provide justification.
Fields of Study & Development Themes
There is no strict subject-list restriction, but priority will be given to courses aligning with the CSC’s six development themes:
- Science and technology for development
- Strengthening health systems and capacity
- Promoting global prosperity
- Strengthening global peace, security and governance
- Strengthening resilience and response to crises
- Access, inclusion and opportunity
How to Apply & Key Dates
Applications are made through national nominating agencies (or approved non-government organisations) in the applicant’s home country. You must also submit an online application via the CSC’s Electronic Application System (EAS).
The deadline for the 2026/27 academic year is Tuesday 21 October 2025 at 16:00 BST (15:00 GMT).
Tips for Applicants
- Begin early: Securing nomination and submitting quality documentation takes time.
- Tailor your proposal: Show how your master’s study relates to your home country’s development and how you plan to return and contribute.
- Check eligibility carefully: Ensure your degree class, citizenship/residency status and timing align.
- Attach required documents: Transcripts, degree certificate, references and any special justification (e.g., if applying for a second master’s).
- Use the official sources: Always refer to the CSC website for the latest guidance.
