Community Foundation of Grundy County Program Director Devan Gagliardo spoke with WCSJ recently to provide the latest Foundation updates of interest to listeners.
She said this year’s scholarship recipients have been announced.
“We had so many students applied for scholarships this year, which was fantastic, and these are just the ones that we have in our office. The Community Foundation has multiple scholarship funds. Some just go straight to the school and the school chooses the winners. They have their own scholarship committee. So, these are just going to be the ones where we are involved in that process. We have two for GAVC students. One is the Pete Muffler Fire Science Scholarship for a GAVC student. This year’s winner was Owen Novinski of Minooka High School. The other one we have GAVC student is the Grabowski/Olson Automotive Scholarship and that one went to Kohen Gross of Morris High School.”
Gagliardo continued with school and trade specific scholarship recipients.
“The Jacob Perry Scholarship we had, I think sixteen applicants for this year which is just fantastic. And there’s two recipients. This one is only for Morris High School students. So, this year, those two recipients are Julia Knoblich and Connor Ahearn. The McCormack-Hill Scholarship, and this is only for Seneca High School. This one focused on students who were going into the trades and education. Students that received those were Christopher Smith, Benjamin Biros, Clara Bruno, Grace Beland, Payton McDonald, Audry McNabb, Casey Klicker, Lauryn Barla.”
One new music scholarship was made available this year, and eleven Minooka High School seniors benefited from scholarships sponsored by the Minooka Women’s Club.
“The Roy and Mardell Carter music scholarship, and this is brand new for this year and it was open to any Grundy County High School student. So, this year’s recipient was Shelby Welsh Duckwitz from Seneca. The Minooka Women’s Club provided scholarships to eleven Minooka High School seniors. This one was open to anyone with any degree path, just as long as they were Minooka students. So those ones are Taya Gummerson, Evan Kiper, Palmer Calvey, Mark Rodeghero, Taylor Rodriguez, Rhiannon Curiel, Gracie Anderson, Elizabeth Frazier, Brielle Taylor, Aubrey Laken, Courteney Cranston. So, congratulations to all of those scholarship recipients this year.”
She added that interested students still have until June 1st to complete an essay and apply for the Farrell Fellow Scholarship which is for $10K. Find scholarship details and online application by going to their website: cfgrundycounty.com.
