On April 30, the Adams County Community Foundation celebrated many high school students who will graduate this spring by awarding over $225,000 in scholarships.  These scholarships help students with their financial needs as they continue their education.  So many bright students are deserving of this assistance.  What a lovely morning it was as parents, students, and donors enjoyed breakfast and acknowledged the students’ achievements.
With the school year coming to an end, some young people may want to consider a community service project to work on during the summer.  The Shirley Smith Youth Service Fund could be considered to provide a grant toward a worthy project. There is financial assistance to aid creative youth-led community service.  The projects may be small, such as planting flowers or a garden to help an elderly neighbor.  A far-reaching project could be a mission trip with a youth group or eagle scout project.
Students in Adams County between the ages of 14-24 may share their ideas or plans for such a project. The fund offers grants up to 75% of out-of-pocket expenses for the service project.
This Fund encourages young people to look around and envision a project that will help others, bring satisfaction, and develop new skills.  Scouts, 4-H members, church youth groups, and motivated individuals are encouraged to learn more about the Shirley Smith Youth Service Fund.  Project examples could be volunteering in assisted living centers, homeless shelters, animal shelters, or creating a service project.  Other events that the Youth Service Fund may consider are educational conferences or camps for youth that provide training, enrichment, and service opportunities.
Applicants can find the forms needed for consideration of this fund on the Adams County Community Foundation’s website.  Applicants will be required to complete the forms and provide a proposal of the project that they would like the Youth Service Fund to consider.
