The Community Foundation of Warren County continues to make education accessible for all residents through its diverse scholarship offerings.
Since launching a program for non-traditional scholarships in late 2022, the foundation has provided over $80,000 in financial assistance to Warren County residents pursuing certifications or degrees in fields such as healthcare, social services, trades, and technical programs.
“These scholarships are tailored to meet the needs of those looking to advance their careers or improve their employability,” said Mark A. King, foundation executive director. “We want to eliminate financial barriers for anyone ready to take that next step, whether they’re pursuing a certification as an EMT or a degree in nursing.”
Non-traditional scholarship applications are reviewed monthly, offering flexibility for adult learners or those returning to school.
“It’s about meeting people where they are in life and supporting them in achieving their goals,” King added.
For graduating high school seniors, the Foundation offers over 50 scholarships, with awards totaling more than $1 million annually. Eligible students include those from public high schools like Warren Area, Eisenhower, Youngsville, and Sheffield; private schools; homeschoolers; and cyber school students, provided they are Warren County residents. The application portal for the 2025-2026 academic year opens on January 31, 2025, and closes on April 16, 2025.
A key requirement for scholarship eligibility is a completed FAFSA, which helps identify students in financial need. “Many of our scholarships, including the Community Foundation’s Unrestricted Scholarship, are need-based,” King explained. “Students with family incomes under $95,000 may qualify for these awards, which can be renewed for up to four years if criteria are met.”
Scholarships cater to a wide range of interests and career paths. Some highlight academic achievement, such as the Chapin Reese Scholarship, awarded to the Warren Area High School student with the highest academic average, and the Jane G. Masters Scholarship, for National Honor Society members. Others, like the Blake Langdon Corey Memorial Scholarship, focus on technical and trade fields, offering support to culinary arts students from the Warren County Career Center.
“From healthcare to education to athletics, we have scholarships for nearly every field of interest,” King said. “For example, the Hayden Salapek Football Lineman Memorial Scholarship celebrates Warren Area High School football linemen, while the Annabelle Bollinger Scholarship supports those pursuing careers caring for individuals with disabilities.”
Students interested in applying can visit cfowc.org/scholarships starting January 31 to complete the single application. “Once registered and the qualifying questions are answered, applicants will see all scholarships they are eligible for,” King said. “Selection committees then evaluate applications to determine award recipients and amounts. Notifications are sent in late May, and scholarship funds are directly sent to school bursar offices in July and January before each semester.”
King emphasized the Foundation’s commitment to ensuring that no eligible student misses out on these opportunities. “We want everyone in Warren County to know about these resources,” he said. “Our staff is here to help, whether it’s answering questions about the application process or discussing specific scholarships. Education is an investment in our community’s future, and we are proud to play a role in making it possible.”
