The YMCA’s scholarships remove financial barriers so children, families and individuals of all ages can take part in programs that promote health, teamwork and community.
Funded largely through community donations, the program is supported by the annual Give Your Heart to a Child campaign, which raises money used exclusively for scholarships. The campaign kicks off Tuesday, Oct. 12, with a goal of raising more than $290,000.
While appearing on Sheridan Media’s Public Pulse, YMCA Executive Director Liz Cassiday said it is a misconception that only children benefit from the scholarships.

Each fall, YMCA employees and volunteers canvass the county looking for residents with big hearts to donate to the program. Last year’s donations and the hard work of volunteers ensured that 1,500 people were able to take part in YMCA activities.
This year, throughout November, Fremont Toyota will donate $100 to the campaign for every car sold.
The campaign raises funds to support scholarships that can be used by people of all ages who meet the requirements.
