A federal civil rights complaint is expected top be filed against Grand Valley State University (GVSU).
According to a statement provided by civil rights group The Equal Protection Project, GVSU allegedly engaged in illegal racial discrimination by using race, color, and/or national origin as a qualification for 11 scholarships.
Specifics on what scholarships were involved were not disclosed.
However, by using race, color and/or national origin as qualifications for the scholarships, the university violated Title VI of the Civil Rights Act and the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment, Equal Protection Project officials said.
Officials with Grand Valley State University told News Channel 3 the university has not received a complaint from the Department of Education's Office of Civil Rights.
However, GVSU is committed to "full compliance with applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations," officials said.
