The Garland County Conservation District awarded its 2025 academic scholarship to Lake Hamilton High School graduate Lilliann Vaughn.
The annual scholarship is funded through proceeds from sales of Arkansas Department of Conservation District specialty license plates in Garland County. It supports local high school students planning to study agriculture, natural resource conservation, environmental science or related fields.
Vaughn graduated with high honors and was active in Future Farmers of America, National Honor Society, Beta Club and Leadership Hot Springs. Her passion for plants began early in childhood while spending time with her grandmother, a news release said.
Vaughn said she plans to pursue studies in horticulture and agriculture with a goal of conserving soil and protecting the environment for future generations. She hopes to one day collaborate with the Arkansas Forestry Commission and Arkansas State Parks to identify new plant species and conduct research on soil health.
By studying soil components and pH levels, she said she aims to help farmers develop improved methods for boosting crop yields.
