The Coral Gables Music Club, which is celebrating its 86th year, on Feb. 6, presented its Annual Scholarship Recital at the Coral Gables Congregational Church, 3010 De Soto Blvd.
Eighteen students from elementary through high school received the prestigious award this year. The 2025 recipients are: Daniel Acosta, Zoe Aldana, Marcus Bautista, Alexander Brown, Anabelle Calles, Aleksandra Deshevaia, Nicolas Marin Fumero, Luka Gekic, Valentina Gomez, Sophie Habashi, Raphael Hablich, Shanming He, Alexandra Larios, Christopher Rocha, Joshua Safont, Marianne Rose Villar-Cordova Scott, Marc Usatenko and Christopher Yang.
Angelica Sganga, artistic director and scholarship chair, was a scholarship recipient of this very program when she was in high school. She has a master’s in Music and Piano Performance from FIU, currently is a piano instructor at the University of Miami Frost Preparatory Program, and is involved with different music organizations.
The purpose of the club is to promote interest in music and the allied arts and to encourage and support young, talented artists to prepare for a future career in music. The scholarship fund has been provided by generous benefactors. Winning a scholarship increases confidence and self-esteem.
The club’s former scholarship students are working in every field of music. More than two dozen are on university music faculties and others teach privately. Many more are members of large, first-rate symphony orchestras around the globe, several well-known concert artists, some working in Broadway Musical Theater, jazz artists, composers, arrangers, opera singers. There is a Toni Award winner among this elite group and another received the Duke Ellington Award as the finest young pianist of jazz in the nation.
