Jerry Cox, founder of the Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship, recently awarded the Fall 2025 scholarships to five second-level nursing students at Frontier Community College. This year’s recipients are Taylor Postin, Curtlyn Coale, Casey Atteberry, Brittney Wiggins, and Brittany Johnson.
Established in 2009, the Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship has now supported 104 nursing students, with total contributions exceeding $100,000. Jerry Cox’s dedication to the scholarship is rooted in his service in Vietnam, where he developed a profound respect for the nurses who provided care to soldiers under challenging conditions. His gratitude and admiration for their service inspired him to create a lasting source of support for future generations of nurses.
Over the years, Cox’s friends T.J. Minton and Adella Williams have also contributed to the scholarship, recognizing his commitment to the nursing program and the broader community. Cox takes pride in seeing many scholarship recipients go on to serve at Fairfield Memorial Hospital (FMH) and other healthcare facilities throughout the region. While he encourages students to consider local employment, he celebrates every graduate entering the nursing profession, especially at a time when skilled nurses are in high demand.
The Clemence Elizabeth Cox Scholarship stands as a testament to the power of generosity and the enduring spirit of community support that defines Frontier Community College.
