FLINT, MI – Bobby Crim, founder of the Crim race, has established a scholarship fund at the Foundation for Mott Community College.
The Bobby and Donald Wayne Crim Scholarship Endowment will be awarded to a graduate of a Genesee County school district who maintains a 2.5 GPA and attends Mott Community College full- or part-time.
Donald Crim, Bobby’s son, died in November 2011 at the age of 57.
A 1972 Davison High School graduate, Donald Crim was a member of the Elks Club, St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church and enjoyed golf, according to his obituary.
Bobby Crim endowed the fund with a gift of $50,000 in 2023 and an additional gift of $25,000 in January 2025.
To date, the fund has awarded scholarships to a total of 17 students.
“We are grateful for Mr. Crim’s support of our students through this generous gift,” said Shaunda Richardson-Snell, Mott Community College Interim President. “His impact in Flint and Genesee County is unparalleled, from the Crim Road Race, which has grown into the Crim Festival of Races and the Crim Fitness Foundation, and now this lasting tribute to his son that will positively impact MCC student success for generations.”
Bobby Crim founded the Crim Race in 1977, inspired to create a foot race to support the Special Olympics.
The race’s inaugural event drew 700 runners.
The Crim has evolved over the decades into a festival of races, including a Teddy Bear Trot, 5K, to a 10-mile run, attracting thousands of participants, including elite runners from around the world.
Bobby Crim himself ran in the 10-mile event more than 40 times, before hanging up his racing shoes after crossing the finish line in downtown Flint in 2021.
