CSIO grants CL Data Standards Certification to Applied Systems Canada – Insurance Business America

By Josh Recamara
The Centre for Study of Insurance Operations (CSIO) has announced that Applied Systems Canada has achieved Commercial Lines (CL) Data Standards Certification for eight additional business segments across its Applied Epic Brokerage Management System (BMS) and Applied Policy Works.
The new certifications cover education, farming, health services, hospitality, manufacturing and processing, member organization, warehousing, and wholesale services. Applied Systems had already earned certification for business and professional services, contractors, retail, and real estate services.
With this recognition, Applied Systems is expanding its ability to deliver real-time commercial quotes to brokers through an Application Programming Interface (API). The company said the integration enables brokerage partners to generate quotes within seconds from insurers who support the API for these business segments.
For brokers, the adoption of CL Data Standards allows seamless data exchange with insurers and BMS vendors, while also supporting the ability to quote and bind policies directly within their management systems. Industry groups have long argued that such automation helps reduce administrative friction and frees up brokers to focus on client relationships and advisory roles.
Applied Systems said the additional certifications demonstrate its commitment to enhancing broker connectivity and building digital processes that streamline the placement of commercial insurance. The company pointed to the efficiencies gained by brokers through faster workflows and more precise data exchange, which in turn support higher productivity.
CSIO described the achievement as a milestone that supports broader standards adoption across the Canadian property and casualty market. The association has made advancing CL Data Standards a strategic priority, with the goal of automating business operations across the broker channel and improving service delivery to policyholders.
The certifications are part of an ongoing industry-wide push to modernize the commercial lines placement process, an area historically seen as slower to digitalize compared with personal lines. By extending the scope of certification, Applied and CSIO aim to build momentum for standards adoption and further align brokers, insurers, and technology providers around a unified approach.
