Carmi-White County seniors are graduating with $2.6 million dollars in help with furthering their education. That was the total announced at the culmination of the Awards Day ceremony Thursday afternoon. More than 142 award categories recognized winners of various business, memorial, civic organization, foundation, and college monetary prizes.
Winners included future accountants, dentists, pharmacists, and nurses and students were acknowledged for attendance, citizenship, athletic and academic performance, as well as their roles in helping others through mentoring and the Arrows program. The big money, once again came from the Absher Charitable Foundation who has since 2021 awarded now more than $4.8 million to NCOE and CWC graduating seniors. Seventeen students picked up $24,000 each from the organization this year and an additional seventeen picked up $48,000 each. Amber Carney, on behalf of the Absher Charitable Foundation, said the monetary awards aren’t gifts; rather they’re tools for expanding knowledge to forge a path forward and make a difference in the lives of others. Another $576,000 is heading to graduating NCOE students. We’ll find out who’s getting those funds at next Thursday’s Awards Day program (May 15th).
And as is customary, CWC gave a standing ovation to the students heading into the military following high school. This year, Jayde Albright was recognized as he prepares to enlist in the U.S. Army.
