A Cygnet and Pemberville resident were among five area students to recently receive scholarships from Glass City Federal Credit Union.
The Glass City Federal scholarships were granted to area students who are attending a two or four year accredited post-secondary institution during the 2025-26 school year. Scholarship applicants were required to write and submit an essay, and the winning recipients were selected by a panel of community business representatives.
Sophie Piper, a 2023 Elmwood High School graduate and Cygnet resident, is the recipient of a $1,000 scholarship awarded by Glass City Federal Credit Union. Piper is a dean’s list student and Kessler Honorary Scholar at Ohio State University (OSU), where she is majoring in radiological sciences.
At OSU, Piper is a member of the Kessler Scholars Program and Buckeyes Against Cancer Club, while volunteering for BuckeyeThon and The James Center Hospital.
Eric Sander, a 2025 graduate of Eastwood High School and a resident of Pemberville, is the recipient of a $2,500 scholarship awarded by Glass City Federal Credit Union. He is planning to attend Ohio Wesleyan University in the fall, to major in biology.
Sander served as president of Eastwood High School’s Student Council and as a member of the National Honor Society and Tri-M Music Honor Society. As a member of the school’s varsity swimming and soccer teams, he obtained awards for both sports, as well as setting school records for several swimming events. He also received Ohio Music Education Association Solo & Ensemble Superior Rating awards, the Wood County Educational Service Center “Achievement of Excellence” award, and numerous other academic awards.
As a Scout of America, he achieved both his Eagle Scout and Order of the Arrow Arrowman rankings, exemplifying his dedication to service and leadership.
