Bob Ide, Fox56 sports Director says , Kaden Coyne for Dallas area high school. On behalf of MYTV, WQMY, High school hoops and the Figure law firm. We're happy to present you the scholarship of $3,000.
Ide asks, Frist, when you found out you won the award, were you surprised ?
Kaden Coyne, Dallas Senior (HSH scholarship winner says ,” Yes, I was definitely surprised. I know I am going up against lot of, really well-rounded, amazing other students, too. So, yeah, I was pretty surprised to hear that I won.
Ide says, Well, you stood out, you class president. You do a lot. Off the field. Why is that important to you?
Coyne responds, “ I've always been a kind of guy that wanted to work just as hard in the classroom as in sports. They're both equally as important to me. You know? I can't play baseball forever. So I try to be as well-rounded as possible. “
The Seniors’ involvement in the community extends in helping to raise over $40,000 for local nonprofits. In the classroom Kaden has average over 100 and is a member of the national honor society.
Gregory Riley, Dallas Principal, says” So, obviously, for years he's been in the building. I think the biggest part of growth. And his point was his growth as a leader and not only on the athletic field, but academically.
He's also our class president and senior year. You squashed him. He just become a great leader with our students. And an example also for universities. “
For his submission video Kaden showed off his juggling skills. It was a team effort to get it done.
Video submission Coyne says , “ Leading up to high school, I tried everything from track, football, basketball, and even soccer. But my true passion has always been baseball.
My approach at the plate is like my approach in the classroom. Smart, disciplined and aggressive.
Coyne added, “ So it was pretty much me, my mom, my sister around the house for a couple hours, filming in different spots, and they were helping me. And coming up, we all kind of kind of came up with ideas and.
On the field Kaden is an outfielder on the Dalals baseball team and is one of the best players in the Wyoming Valley conference. He will take his game to the University of Massachusetts in the fall to continue his academics and athletics.
Mike Viglone, Dallas baseball Coach says ,” I've known him since middle school. And how, you know, started off in the middle school ranks is every year he's gotten better and better and better. You know, he deserves everything he gets. You know he's going to UMass next year. So he's really just an all around great player. “
Coyne, added “ A culture we've have at Dallas baseball is amazing and it's so much fun going to practice every day. “
