The Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club will be awarding 17 scholarships on May 9 at 5:30 p.m. at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church.
Seniors in Dallas County and Wilcox County are eligible for the scholarship, valued at a combined $52,000. The Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club is associated with the University of Alabama National Alumni Association, but the Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club membership includes all fans of the University of Alabama in Dallas and Wilcox counties.
“Our Bama Club goals are to provide qualifying senior students going to the University of Alabama their freshman year with some financial aid, plus have fun celebrating with Bama nation fans through events,” Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club president Ronnie Leet said. “We are very grateful for the support of these endowed scholarships and the membership to the Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club.”
Tickets to attend the banquet are $35 each. Reservations to attend the banquet must be made by April 30. Anyone wanting to join the Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club costs $15.
Alabama radio play-by-play Chris Stewart will be the guest speaker. Stewart has been the longtime voice of Alabama men’s basketball, and he will take over announcing duties for football in 2024, replacing legendary play-by-play commentator Eli Gold.
The Dallas-Wilcox Bama Club board consists of President Leet, Anne Williamson, Buddy Perkins, James McNeill, Beau Boyd, Tom Glover Ill, and Laura Beth Boyd.
The scholarships come from Blackbelt, Sam Earle Hobbs Memorial, Betty Jean Perkins McKelvey Memorial, Doris and Henry Plant Memorial, Mary Ann Plant Memorial, Sterling Price and Saidee Rainer Memorial, Barbara and Ronnie Leet, David E. and Rebecca McKinney Roberts, Mary Varner McCall Dillard Memorial, Selma Quarterback Club, Mary Ann Morthland Patterson Memorial, Julius and Pearle Talton Memorial, Alex Spencer Jr., Bessie Spencer and Christopher H.
