MELROSE — A Danvers teen was recently awarded a $1,000 scholarship from MelroseWakefield Hospital.
Emilio Abad was given the scholarship for his service in the hospital’s VolunTeens program, hospital officials said in a press release. The scholarship, funded by the MelroseWakefield Hospital Auxiliary, is awarded annually to a VolunTeen for his or her commitment to the community’s health.
Abad joined the volunteer program to learn about hospital operations and gain firsthand health care experience as part of his senior internship at Danvers High School.
“Emilio displayed a level of professionalism typically seen in seasoned health care workers, along with a positive attitude and eagerness that enhanced the experience for both patients and staff,” said Joe McGuiggan, manager of the volunteer program at MelroseWakefield Hospital.
Abad graduated from Danvers High last spring and is currently attending North Shore Community College, studying health sciences as he prepares to apply to nursing school.
