Ella Sophia Ruiz, a 2025 graduate of Three Rivers High School, received a $300 scholarship from the Captain John Sale Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). She is the daughter of J.R. and Jessica Ruiz.

The DAR Good Citizens Program and Scholarship Contest encourages and rewards students who exemplify the qualities of good citizenship, including dependability, service, leadership and patriotism. Because the contest focuses on citizenship, no transcript is required.
Students were asked to write an essay within a two-hour time limit under the supervision of a faculty or DAR member. Entries were scored by independent judges, and the local chapter winner not only receives a $300 scholarship but also advances to the state and national levels of competition.
“The DAR Good Citizen receives a DAR Good Citizen pin, certificate and wallet recognition card,” said Carolyn Orsak, contest chairperson and recording secretary of the Captain John Sale Chapter.
