Dayspring Missionary Baptist Church will host its first Endowed Scholarship Gala on Saturday, Nov. 9, to help increase the size of the Tiawana Mechele Wheeler Memorial Endowed Scholarship fund at Bethune-Cookman University (B-CU).
The event will run from 4 to 7 p.m. at 1945 NE 8th Ave. in Gainesville and will feature Alachua County Commissioner Chuck Chestnut as the event speaker. The endowment established at B-CU, located in Daytona Beach, honors Alachua County native Tiawanna Mechele Wheeler.
Every ticket purchased and donation made contributes to HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) endowments, ensuring that future generations have access to higher education. The event will feature food, music, silent auctions, community leader awards and the chance to help make an impact.

The ticket donation price is $55. Guests can either attend just for the dinner or donate more than the standard ticket price.
Those who can’t attend but are interested in donating to this charitable cause can do so by mailing to P.O. Box 357685, Gainesville, FL 32635. Sponsorships are available at desired contribution levels of $250 and above. The highest sponsor will be recognized as the presenting sponsor, while others will be supporting sponsors.
On Sept. 21, the Tiawana Mechele Wheeler Memorial Endowed Scholarship was announced at a football game between B-CU and Clark University of Atlanta where a $10,250 check was presented toward the scholarship.
