For more than 45 years, the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne has served the Island community with a simple motto – “Service Above Self” – and that service extends to providing scholarship opportunities for deserving local students and local organizations working to improve the lives of others.
The award money represents the culmination of the club’s year-long fundraising efforts, including the Liberty Grill Picnic held annually during the Fourth of July Parade. Last year, the Rotary Club of Key Biscayne awarded $20,000 to local students and organizations, a record total for the club.
This year, local students residing on Key Biscayne, or their parents who work on the Island, can apply for $2,000 scholarships
“The Key Biscayne Rotary Club is proud to offer scholarships and grants to support residents and nonprofits,” Rotarian Pamela Gordon said. “These opportunities help support young adults pursuing their educational goals and assist organizations that are making a difference in our community.”
Gordon is a member of the Club’s Grants & Scholarships Committee, which also includes Patricia Amat, Steve Baker, Inés Lozano, Michael Nearing and Inés Siquiera.
The Rotary Club also offers $2,000 grants to local nonprofit organizations. Past winners include A Zero Waste Culture, Flying High for Haiti, Marjory Stoneman Douglas Nature Center and The Miami Children’s Chorus. Applicants must provide details on how the grant funds will be used, along with the timeline for the funded project.
Scholarship and grant applications will be accepted until May 15, 2025, with award decisions made by May 30, 2025.
Rotary members meet Friday’s at 7:30 a.m. at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club. Cost is $25 per person and guests are always welcomed.
