Annika Brynsaas and Kelsey Timp
The Decorah Area Chamber’s Ag Drive Thru Meal was held on June 17. Proceeds from the fundraiser support the Chamber Ag Scholarship Program and the Chamber’s Herdsmanship awards at the Winneshiek County Fair. Following a successful fundraiser, the Chamber Ag Committee announced this year’s two scholarship recipients, Annika Brynsaas and Kelsey Timp. Both received a $500 scholarship award.
Brynsaas is an NICC student who is pursuing a degree in digital marketing and agribusiness. After graduation she hopes to share her marketing skills with a company in northeast Iowa and also play a role in her family’s business – Brynsaas Sales & Service. Timp, a 2025 graduate of South Winneshiek High School, is planning to attend Iowa State University in the fall to major in agricultural communications. She hopes to use her degree to be an advocate for the dairy industry.
Chamber Board Vice President Blake Courtney, who joined ag committee members during the fundraiser meal, expressed the importance of recognizing and highlighting young people who intend to pursue careers in agriculture.
“Winneshiek County’s agricultural industry is a pillar of our local economy and the Chamber Ag. Committee works hard to increase recognition and appreciation for the ag sector,” Courtney said. “We have talented and hardworking young people who will be the next generation of leaders for agriculture. The scholarships are one way to offer support and celebrate their pursuits.”
