DECORAH, Iowa — Luther College and the Decorah Community School District have announced a new Preferred Admission Partnership aimed at expanding educational opportunities for local students.
This initiative allows eligible Decorah High School students to gain Preferred Admission to Luther College, along with a scholarship.
Luther College President Brad Chamberlain expressed excitement about the collaboration, noting it strengthens ties with local partners and enhances educational access for Decorah students. “The partnership reflects a mutual commitment to invest in our local community,” Chamberlain said.
To qualify, students must maintain a 3.25 GPA and complete Algebra II by the end of their junior year. Those meeting these criteria will receive a $500 Preferred Admission award and may qualify for additional scholarships.
Cindy Goodner, president of the Decorah Community School District Board of Education, highlighted the partnership’s role in recognizing students’ achievements and supporting their educational pursuits close to home.
Matthew R. Beatty, vice president for enrollment management at Luther, emphasized the program’s role in providing a supportive pathway for Decorah students to excel at Luther College.
Superintendent Tim Cronin noted the partnership as a significant step in supporting student aspirations, allowing them to continue their education while staying connected to their community.
Students not meeting the Preferred Admission criteria are still encouraged to apply to Luther through a holistic review process. Interested students and families should contact Decorah High School counselors or Luther College’s admissions team for more information.
