TULSA, Okla. — Delta Dental of Oklahoma (DDOK) and the Delta Dental of Oklahoma Foundation awarded a Tulsa dental student with a research stipend for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Second year dental student Rena Zhang is one of only four students at the University of Oklahoma College of Dentistry (OUCOD) to receive a research stipend and the only student from the Tulsa area to receive one.
“With Oklahoma facing a growing need for skilled dental professionals, every research stipend is an investment in the future dental workforce of Oklahoma,” said John Gladden, the President and CEO of DDOK. “Our Foundation is proud to support students like Rena whose commitment to dentistry will help ensure Oklahoma communities can receive quality oral health care for generations to come.”
Rena’s research project is set to study the association between Peripheral Giant Cell Granuloma and dental implants using a retrospective analysis.
Several dental and dental hygiene students at the OU College of Dentistry who said they’re planning to work in Oklahoma after graduation were also awarded scholarships by DDOK to help them pursue their studies.
Between the provided scholarships and the four students receiving research stipends, the DDOK and its foundation awarded over $117,000 to 17 students for the current academic year.
Paul M. Mullasseril, the dean of the OU College of Dentistry stated, “For decades, Delta Dental of Oklahoma and its Foundation have shown a remarkable commitment to our students and to the future of dentistry in our state. Their support and research funding continue to empower our students to pursue their passion for dentistry, making a lasting impact on the oral health landscape of Oklahoma.”
