This year’s 213 graduates of Columbus St. Francis DeSales High School earned $40.3 million in scholarships.
In the fall, 95 percent of them will be attending one of 58 two-year or four-year institutions of higher education. Four students will be entering the military – one each to ROTC at The Catholic University of America, the U.S. Navy, the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy and Virginia Military Institute.
The school’s commencement ceremony will be at 9 a.m. Saturday, May 31 at Alumni Stadium after a Baccalaureate Mass at 6 p.m. Thursday, May 29 in the New Albany Church of the Resurrection.
Members of the class of 2025 completed more than 9,340 service hours during the school year.
The following awards were given to members of the senior class: Father James M. Berendt Service Award, Matthew Bogue, Grace Castellano, Alejandro Garcia and Hillary Letzelter; Bishop Herrmann Service Award, Bella Miller; Alumni Award, Jacob Reash and Olivia Smith; Senior Spirit Award: Evie Frazier, Peter Haggard, Mimi Tesfay and Carter Ward; Campus Ministry Award: Chloe Bassnett and Derek Streitenberger.
Academic medals were presented to 125 students, 16 of whom received summa cum laude medals for posting grade point averages of 4.15 or higher. Another 89 students were awarded magna cum laude medals (3.75-4.149 GPA) with 20 receiving cum laude medals (3.6-3.749).

Eighteen student-athletes will continue their athletic careers in college.
