Sixteen Design Build Team members from the Mark Richardson Center building and construction class, recently participated in the 2025 NorCal Construction Industry Education Foundation Design Build Competition.
The team included students who attend Santa Maria, Righetti, Pioneer Valley and Delta high schools.
The 40th Annual Construction Industry Education Foundation Design Build Competition featured students from 44 high schools, trade schools and college teams — 614 students spent two days building the structures at Consumes River College in Elk Grove.
“We had an awesome team and I’m grateful for the opportunity we had to put ourselves out there and be able to see all of our practice and hard work come together. I’m proud of the work that we did and thankful for the amazing experience,” said Pioneer Valley senior Jasper Vital.
“While our team did not claim any group accolades this year, I am immensely proud to announce that our students secured more individual scholarships than in all previous years combined — a testament to their exceptional talent and dedication,” said Glen Holmes, building and construction teacher.
Scholarship winners included Jonathon Chavez, senior PVHS $2,500; Kimberly Coronel, senior SMHS $2,500; Jasper Vital, senior PVHS $1,700; Yuridia Palmares, senior SMHS $1,650.
In total, $8,350 was awarded to the MRC design build team.
