GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) – An alum of Green Bay West High School and his wife gave four students at the school scholarships today to help pay for higher education.
Jim Ryan graduated in 1985 and later graduated from Marquette University.
He and his wife, Tracy, created the ‘Do Great Things’ initiative, specifically for Green Bay West High School, to help bridge the financial costs of going to college.
The scholarship gives the opportunity to two students heading to Marquette University and one going to UW-Green Bay, as well as a smaller grant to a fourth recipient.
One student was brought to tears as they expressed their gratitude for being selected.
“I could never have expected to have this amount of money to put towards my college spending. I have this entire year worried of being able to actually get into college and spend my time there and be able to get a future,” Axel Madaski, scholarship recipient said.
The scholarship gives the students full tuition for four years, including two years of on-campus housing and a meal plan.
The fourth student was given a $5,000 grant toward their UWGB tuition.
