(Dodge County) The Dodge County Master Gardener Association has announced its 2025 scholarship winners. Hannah Karus and Claire Thiel have each been awarded a $1,000 scholarship. 
Hannah Karus, a senior at Beaver Dam High School, will attend UW River Falls to study Professional Horticulture with the goal of educating others about the importance of plant life, the environment and the numerous benefits that plants provide. While in high school, Hannah participated in FFA and was Sentinel 2022-2025, received the Star Sophomore Award, the PRIDE Award and Chapter Degree. She also participated in the FFA Career Development Event competition. She was a charter member of NTSH in 2024. She volunteers passing out food with Second Harvest Food Pantry and you may have seen her working hard at Fleet Farm. 
Claire Thiel, a senior at Beaver Dam High School, plans to attend BYU- Idaho majoring in Horticulture with a focus in Design/Build/Maintain. In high school Claire was involved in Battle of the Books, DND Club, the spring high school play, Trap, and the National Honor Society. She has participated in Solo and Ensemble and qualified for state each time as well as participating in the pit orchestra for the 2024 high school fall musical. She is also active in the high school orchestra. Claire has participated in FFA, specifically the Floriculture Career Development event team, and was selected as FFA student of the month. She is involved in the community through volunteer work, church activities, 4-H club, scouts, pioneers and the past two years she has worked for the Beaver Dam Chamber of Commerce as the Farmer’s Market Manager. 
The Dodge County Master Gardener Association awards scholarships to high school seniors who plan a career in an area of horticulture.
