A group of Oregon baseball donors have formed a business to help the program fund additional scholarships and Name, Image and Likeness opportunities for players.
Diamond Ducks has a goal of funding additional scholarships, up to the newly approved roster limit of 34 next season from the NCAA’s current 11.7 scholarship limit in baseball, and create more streams to support funding of NIL for players.
“Coach (George) Horton and coach (Mark) Wasikowski have built a perennial top 20 program, and now we are faced with new challenges in order to remain as one of the top programs in the country,” Diamond Ducks managing director and former Oregon athletics administrator Joe Giansante said in a release. “We’ve come too far, and with four straight NCAA tournament appearances and two straight regional championships, we are too close to taking that step to Omaha to allow these changes to negatively impact the program. The time is now to be creative and proactive, and to bring the sustainability the program will need to compete at the highest level.”
Fans can join several membership clubs via the Diamond Ducks website to create a base of recurring support for the program.
The “Diamond Duck Omaha Yellow Membership” is designed as an affordable option — $29.99 per month with a $149 initiation fee — for fans interested in supporting NIL efforts. Members will receive priority access to postseason tickets and other benefits.
The “Diamond Duck Omaha Green Membership” is a higher tier level of support for the program, costing $149 per month with a $349 initiation fee. Members will receive a custom engraved bat and batting helmet, VIP parking, priority access to postseason tickets and other benefits.
Former players, coaches and team managers are encouraged to job the “Diamond Duck Alumni Bat Club,” which will include a display of engraved bats outside the Oregon locker room with the names of all former players who join the group that will honor their respective legacies. Cost to join that group is $66.58 per month with a $249 initiation fee.
A Premier Club limited to 25 members is designed for major donors and will provide exclusive experiences, premium amenities at PK Park and a “deep level of engagement” with the program.
Diamond Ducks has also partnered with with Carl’s Jr. restaurants in Lane County, which are serving the Coach Waz Double Play Patty Melt, with $5 for every combo sold being donated to support the baseball program.
A five-person board including Oregon donors Tim Kerr, who will serve as chair, Renee James, Mark Byrum, Eric Weckert and Rob Gloeckner will lead Diamond Ducks. Former Oregon executive associate athletic director Renee Baumgartner is serving as the group’s executive advisor.
