CLARION — Clarion Area has announced Dr. Justin Arner as the keynote speaker for its 136th commencement ceremony being held tonight (May 29) at 7 p.m..
Dr. Arner, a double board-certified orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine doctor in Pittsburgh, focuses on the surgical and non-surgical management of knee, shoulder, elbow, and hip injuries. He is a Pittsburgh Magazine and Castle Connolly Top Doctor, an honor given to the top 7-percent of doctors in the United States. He has been named the No. 1 orthopaedic surgeon in the UPMC system by Press Ganey. As the physician for both the Pittsburgh Steelers and the US Ski and Snowboard Team, he travels with the athletes nationally and internationally.
Dr. Arner has specialized training and technical expertise in complex shoulder and knee arthroscopy, shoulder instability surgery, cartilage and meniscus surgery, elbow surgery, and sports hip injuries. Dr. Arner completed specialized training with a fellowship in sports medicine and shoulder surgery at the world-renowned Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated medical school from West Virginia University as a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society. Graduating with the highest honors from Shepherd University in Shepherdstown, W.Va., he was also a member of their NCAA Division II football team.
An avid researcher, Dr. Arner has published over 100 articles and twenty book chapters as well as 100 national and international scientific presentations. In the United States, he has been named in the top 3-percent of orthopaedic surgery researchers. Dr. Arner is a monthly podcast host for the Arthroscopy Journal, which has the highest impact factor in orthopaedic sports medicine. He is very active in journal reviewing for each of the highest impact journals in orthopaedics. Additionally, Dr. Arner is extensively involved in multiple orthopaedic societies as a committee chair and member.
Dr. Arner proudly grew up in Clarion with his mother Debra, father James, and brother Jamie. He is a 2005 graduate of Clarion Area High School where he played football, basketball, and baseball. Currently residing in Pittsburgh, Dr. Arner enjoys spending time with his family, including his two young children and his wife, Clara. He also enjoys food and being active by exercising, biking, skiing, and traveling.
