A Dresden student is among this year’s recipients of the Municipal Retirees Organization Ontario (MROO) scholarships, which awarded more than $120,000 to 40 students across the province.
The scholarships, available to family members of current MROO members, support post-secondary education for students who demonstrate leadership, volunteerism, and community commitment.
From Dresden, Abby McGee received a $3,000 scholarship to support her studies toward a Bachelor of Science in Nursing at Lambton College for the 2025-2026 academic year.
Also representing Zone 1, which includes Chatham-Kent, Lambton, and Essex counties, Carina Thachuk of Cottam is studying English Language and Literature at the University of Windsor.
“Now in its 19th year, the MROO scholarship program is an integral part of MROO’s mandate to give back to our members and communities across Ontario,” said Lucie Lombardo, Director of Zone 1. “We are so happy to support our future leaders through our annual student scholarship program. Congratulations and best of luck to Abby and Carina!”
The Municipal Retirees Organization of Ontario represents more than 36,000 Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS) pensioners and offers services and benefits to members from all areas of local government.
