The Duncansville VFW is sponsoring a scholarship for students in grades 6th through 8th.
The Patriot's Penn Essay Contest gives students an opportunity to write essays expressing their views on a patriotic theme.
This year's topic is “How are you showing patriotism and support for our country?”.
Duncansville VFW is part of the nationwide contest, with over 60,000 students entering the competition last year.
Hundreds of dollars in prizes are being given out this year, with the grand prize being $5,000.
Carolann Black-Ebersole, Commander at the Duncansville VFW Post 8724, said, "The kids who write for the VOD, it's just amazing to watch. It really is amazing. Because, these kids, they're just so intelligent and so smart these days, that it's really hard to hold them back. So, I really do believe in this project."
The deadline to enter the contest is October 31.
All entries must be submitted to a sponsoring VFW.
