BUTLER — Hard work in the classroom was rewarded for Eastside seniors.
Through academic, fine arts and athletic achievements, seniors were presented with more than $1.4 million in scholarships, the school announced at Wednesday’s awards night.
That total represents one-time and renewable scholarships. The ceremony took place in the Millie Hansen Auditorium, with faculty and community representatives awarding scholarships.
The Eastside Area Community Foundation presented eight scholarships totaling $41,300:
• Emelly Lamberson — Sechler’s Pickles, Jerry Markle, Knisely National Bank, Butler Eagles scholarships ($2,000);
• Aleigha Pfefferkorn — Dr. Wendell and Joan Hughes, George and Gwyn Kandel, Roger and Judy Kitchen, St. Mark’s Lutheran Church Community Commitment Fund, Universal Tool & Stamping Co. scholarships ($3,000);
• Addison Pfefferkorn — Connie Bowman, Eastern DeKalb Education Association, Elaine Underhill Memorial, Jerry and Kathy McNerney Memorial, Sustarsic Memorial scholarships ($4,000);
• Kiersten Haynes — Charles Robert “Bob” and Evelyn Ridge Memorial, Lane “LB15” Burns, A B Ward Memorial, Heath Mack Memorial, Roger and Dorothy Laub, Toni Bosserman scholarships ($4,300);
• Sydnee Kessler — Frank and Roselyn Brock Memorial, Crow and Bortner Families, Butler Rotary Club, Chester Dekko Memorial, Dick and Lois Bercaw Memorial, Jack and Randy Bercaw, Terry Bosserman and Eastside Area Community Foundation scholarships ($6,000);
• Lillian Cline — Brian Bowman Memorial, Steve Bevington Memorial, Joey Miller Memorial, Pete Seltenright Memorial, Sons of American Legion, St. Joe Lions Club in memory of Mike Storer and Sheila Hoch, St. Joe Lions Club, Therma-Tru Doors, Tony Sechler Memorial and Wayne and Marge Shook Memorial scholarships ($6,000).
• Blake Lesser — Charles Kester and Kate Cather Memorial Scholarship ($8,000).
• Lilyan Kreischer — Rex and Mary Rectenwall Scholarship ($8,000).
The Community Foundation of DeKalb County presented the following scholarships:
• Kiersten Haynes — Walters Family Memorial Scholarship ($1,000).
• Kiersten Haynes — DeKalb County Master Gardeners ($500).
• Lillian Cline — Dr. Bonnell Souder Scholarship (Auburn Business and Professional Women Scholarship ($1,000).
• Brooklyn Burley — Butler Community Day Center Center BEE Scholarship ($4,000).
• Emelly Lamberson — Donald Ruegsegger Scholarship for Christian Leadership ($500).
• Kiersten Haynes — Raymond, Luella and David Aschleman Scholarship ($5,000).
• Addilyn Brown — Chuck Fifer Memorial Scholarship ($500).
These scholarships were also presented Wednesday:
• Kiersten Haynes — The James Foundation Scholarship ($5,000, renewable for two years).
• Kiersten Haynes — Mike Fiedler Memorial Scholarship ($500).

• Addilyn Brown, Lillian Cline, Owen Davis and Avery Wilson — Steel Dynamics and New Millennium Scholarships, $5,000 each per year, renewable for four years, $80,000 total).
• Brooklyn Burley, Sophia Davis, Kiersten Haynes, Karly Kaufmann, Sydnee Kessler, Lily Kreischer, Emelly Lamberson, LaTrisha Lee, Aleigha Pfefferkorn — American Legion Post 202 Scholarships ($500 each).
• LaTrisha Lee — Spencerville Order of the Eastern Star/The Dwyer Scholarship ($1,000).

• Addilyn Brown — Indiana University Provost Scholarship ($16,000 total).
