Egypt reaffirms support for South Sudan with scholarships and capacity-building – OZ Arab Media

Egypt has reiterated its ongoing support for South Sudan, pledging additional scholarships, training programmes and broader capacity-building initiatives. The commitment was conveyed during a courtesy visit by Egypt’s Ambassador to South Sudan, Ambassador Monataz, to the Minister of Information, Communication Technology and Postal Services, Hon. Michael Makuei Lueth, in Juba.
According to a statement, the two discussed bilateral cooperation and regional matters, including Nile Basin issues amid continuing disagreements between Egypt and Ethiopia. Ambassador Monataz said the talks underscored the need to strengthen ties as Juba and Cairo continue to deepen their relationship.
Cairo has previously dispatched medical aid to South Sudan and donated equipment for flood response and agriculture. It also offers multiple scholarships and professional training opportunities to South Sudanese students and officials each year.
Minister Makuei welcomed Egypt’s continued assistance and affirmed the government’s commitment to work closely with Cairo. He thanked the Egyptian government for standing with South Sudan through ongoing economic challenges.
Egypt also hosts a sizeable South Sudanese community, including scholarship students. The two countries share longstanding cultural links—such as the widespread use of Arabic—and Egypt has provided additional support during major floods that displaced communities and hampered humanitarian access.
