WAIMEA — The Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Hawaii Emergency Physicians Association presented eight scholarships to graduating seniors during a dinner at the Waimea Chicken In A Barrel on Thursday.
WAIMEA — The Kauai Veterans Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and the Hawaii Emergency Physicians Association presented eight scholarships to graduating seniors during a dinner at the Waimea Chicken In A Barrel on Thursday.
The scholar recipients included a student from Island School, Orion Magaoay, and a student from Kauai High School, Haley Martinez. The remaining six students were from Waimea High School. Those recipients included Nia Pablo, Margarita Lomongo, Tristan Raposas, Hiilawe Banasihan and Gareson Carvalho.
In addition to the KVMH Auxiliary scholarship, Lomongo also represented the West Side for the HEPA scholarship. Magaoay, who is planning on attending Tuffs University in a medically related field of study, earned a KVMH Auxiliary scholarship. Martinez represented the East Side in receiving the HEPA award.
The KVMH Auxiliary scholarships for students entering a medically related field of study were presented to Pablo and Raposas, both of whom are planning on attending Grand Canyon University.
Lomongo, the recipient of dual awards, is heading to Northern Arizona University. Carvalho, whose award was accepted by his parents, is heading to Seattle University with a major in biology as a pre-med study. Banasihan is scheduled to attend George Fox University.
The HEPA award is part of a statewide program, and the KVMH Auxiliary derives its fund from the KVMH Gift Shop as well a several fundraising events throughout the year, including the annual Christmas Craft Fair on the KVMH campus.
