Eight high school students from the Oswego Community Unit School District 308 have been named semifinalists for the 2025 National Merit Scholarship Corporation Program, according to a news release from the district. Students from Oswego East and Oswego High Schools are represented.
The Oswego East semifinalists are Nishka Bijumalia, Bella Johnson, Mahathi Kandukuri, Finnegan Murray, and Zakaria Rahali. The Oswego High School semifinalists are Stephen Balhan, John Kellogg, and Jessica Van Vorren.
According to the NMSC, over 1.3 million students applied for the program through the preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test. The pool of semifinalists is approximately 16,000 and will be narrowed down to the finalists in February before selecting the scholarship winners.
Oswego High School student Owen Driscoll was named a Commended Student by the NMSC, which recognizes approximately 34,000 of the top scorers from across the country.
